About the Screen Speed System
Screen Speed is a wireless laser measurement and video analysis system developed for sport. It combines continuous laser measurement with an iPhone or iPad camera app, displaying speed and distance data directly in the video in real time.
This allows coaches to analyse measurement data and movement together — directly in the same video.
The Screen Speed System has been developed and used in elite performance environments since 2018.
The Screen Speed Laser Unit connects wirelessly to the Screen Speed app on your iPhone or iPad through its own Wi-Fi network. No external Wi-Fi or internet connection is required.
Simply point the laser at the athlete and film with the app. Measurement data from the Laser Unit is displayed directly on screen and recorded together with the video.
The system is designed for simple, independent operation, allowing a coach to set up the equipment, film the athlete and collect the data without the need for an assistant.
Screen Speed can be used to measure and analyse speed over distance in a wide range of sports and training situations.
The continuous laser measurement makes it possible to see how speed changes throughout a movement, including acceleration, maximum velocity and where maximum velocity is reached.
Typical applications include sprinting, acceleration analysis, approach runs in horizontal jumps and other movements where speed and distance are important for performance.
Yes. Screen Speed provides both split times and flexible timing options.
10 m split times can be quickly generated from the measurement data and exported in a PDF report, providing an overview of performance throughout the measured distance.
For more specific analysis, start and stop positions can be selected at any distance in the app. This makes it possible to measure, for example, a flying 10 m, 20 m or 30 m over any selected section of the movement — without being limited to fixed timing intervals.
The selected timing interval can also be displayed directly in the video, allowing time, speed and movement to be analysed together.
To use the Screen Speed System, you need:
• A Screen Speed Laser Unit
• An iPhone or iPad with the Screen Speed app installed
• A USB power bank with a USB-A output of at least 2A
• A tripod with a standard 1/4-inch mount
The system is completely wireless during use and requires no external Wi-Fi, internet connection or additional computer.
The Screen Speed Laser Unit has a measurement range of up to 100 m. For reliable performance in normal training conditions, we recommend collecting measurement data within 60 m. When measurements over longer distances are required, a reflective bib or similar reflective target can help extend the effective measurement range.
The Wi-Fi range depends on the environment and surrounding conditions and can extend significantly beyond 30 m under optimal conditions. For a stable and reliable connection during normal use, however, we recommend filming within approximately 30 m of the Laser Unit.
This provides plenty of flexibility for sprinting, approach runs and other sport-specific measurements.
The Screen Speed app is available for iPhone and iPad and can be downloaded from the Apple App Store.
The app is designed specifically for use with the Screen Speed Laser Unit, combining live measurement data, video recording, timing and analysis in one interface.
Yes. Multiple iPhones and iPads can connect to the same Screen Speed Laser Unit at the same time.
This allows several coaches or users to receive measurement data from the same Laser Unit simultaneously, for example when filming or analysing an athlete from different positions.
Measurements are recorded together with the video and can be reviewed directly in the Screen Speed app, allowing you to analyse the athlete’s movement alongside speed, distance and timing data.
Videos can be saved in the app library and organised using color tags and comments, making it easy to identify and compare different athletes, sessions or measurements.
Measurement data and split times can also be exported as a PDF report for further analysis or documentation.
Screen Speed was developed by an experienced Olympic coach together with an elite athlete and engineer, combining practical high-performance coaching experience with technical expertise.
Since 2018, the Screen Speed System has been developed and used in elite performance environments internationally, including multiple Olympic training centers, universities and national sports federations.
The system continues to be developed based on practical experience and the evolving needs of coaches and athletes in high-performance sport.
